Describes the exploration of North America in the times of explorers Christopher Columbus, Francisco Vazquez de Coronado, and Sieur de La Salle. The reader's choices reveal the historical details from the perspective of a sailor or a Taino Indian during Columbus' voyage in 1492, a Spanish adventurer or a Zuni Indian during Coronado's 1540 expedition, and a member of Sieur de La Salle's expedition down the Mississippi River in 1682.
"This book of five story paths describes the exploration of North America in the times of explorers Christopher Columbus, Francisco Vazquez de Coronado, and Sieur de La Salle. The reader’s choices reveal the historical details from Columbus’ voyage in 1492, Coronado’s 1540 expedition, and Sieur de La Salle’s expedition down the Mississippi River in 1682. This book may be confusing or irritating for the reader because of notes on the bottom of the pages to other page references. However, the soft color of the pages and the double spaced text may provide some benefit. The book also enables the reader to make some choices about what to do next in learning about the New World. The lovely page colors and the variety of illustrations are good for the senses and for learning about history. Helpful additions are the time line, a section on “Other Paths To Explore”, and a list of a few other books and Internet sites. Also includes a glossary, a bibliography, and an index. There is a beautiful reinforced library binding with other Capstone Press books listed on the back cover. It is part of the “You Choose Books” series." - Children's Literature Comprehensive Database
