Ben and Zoe, WILD's top operatives, are sent to investigate the death of a polar bear near an Alaskan village. The twins' mission takes an unexpected turn when they learn that the bear's orphaned cub is somewhere out in the frozen wilderness. Will Ben and Zoe be able to find the lost cub in time?
"Eleven-year-old twins Zoe and Ben Woodward are recruited by their eccentric, activist uncle to work for WILD, his secret organization to save endangered animals. Their uncle feels that no one will suspect kids as they travel around the globe. Each book tackles a different threatened animal in a variety of habitats, which are highlighted on a world map at the start of each story. The authors use b&w, graphic novel-like illustrations. Complete with gadgets and gear, Ben and Zoe have one harrowing mission after another, displaying improbable know-how and imaginative “toys” designed by Uncle Stephen. Despite some lame dialogue and unrealistic plots, readers will get drawn into the suspenseful rescues. The best-written scenario occurs in the rainforest of Borneo, when the siblings deal with corporate intrigue and betrayal in addition to environmental dangers. The mix of ecological savvy with intrepid desire for adrenaline promises to be popular. Recommended." - Library Media Connection Online
