Rocks Books - April Walters, NY

"I bought this book when I was student-teaching in a third grade classroom. This was quite an academically diverse group of students, five of whom had various special needs. The explanation and illustrations of the rock cycle in the BOCES kit (student book) was lacking to say the least. I read this book aloud to the class and the kids loved it! It illustrates the rock cycle from the point of view of a piece of carbon that eventually becomes a diamond. This book makes a great introduction to studying the rock cycle or could be used as supplemental material at a reading center. (I love to use an interdisciplinary approach when teaching a unit like this!) You could even have advanced students make it into a little play and act out the story for their peers. Another bonus for me, my 5-year-old son loves this book as much as the 8- and 9-year-old 3rd graders did! So it has been a great investment!" - Rocks Books

Science & Children - Christine Anne Royce

"The author uses colorful pictures and creative text in describing the rock cycle, differences between rocks and minerals, and other related topics. This book can be used to assist the reader in understanding the different types of rocks and how they are formed." - Science & Children
