In graphic novel format, text and illustrations describe the life cycle of an apple tree.
"The popular graphic novel format is now being used by Capstone Press in a scientific investigation of the life cycle of the apple tree. Panels contain a combination of characters, dialog, and factual text boxes which describe the life cycle of the apple tree and its fruit. The author, Shannon Barefield, and illustrator, Simon Smith, provide characters who learn how animals, including humans, deer, insects, and of course bees, interact with the trees. The end of the book contains an index, glossary, references and web sites for further research. Because of the age of the characters and the simplicity of the pictures, this visual guide seems most appropriate for the young reader. Teachers should beware that because of the scientific vocabulary (chlorophyll, carbon dioxide, and photosynthesis to name a few), this graphic text must be used in a guided reading situation." - NSTA Recommends
