Author Bea Johnson is an elementary teacher with more than 25 years' teaching experience in kindergarten, second grade, third grade, and first and second grade Chapter I remedial reading. She has presented at numerous conferences including Early Childhood, Reading Association (local, state, and regional), Teachers of English (regional and state), and the Rocky Mountain Research Conference. Bea teaches two-day workshops for educators at the University of Sioux Falls, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on teaching writing to young children and teaching social studies units that are actually interesting. She has worked as a writing consultant for numerous schools in Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, Missouri, and Nebraska.
Children who write before they read become better writers than those who don't, and you can start kindergartners writing even before they can print or spell.
