Reviews

Library Media Connection - Cynthia D. Schulz, PH. D., Middle & High School Library Media Specialist, Granit

"In each of these six picture books in the series reviewed, Anastasia Suen explains the physical development and typical behaviors of baby animals from birth to adulthood. The animals covered are elephant, hippopotamus, lion, rhinocerus, baboon, and tiger. Facts interesting to primary-age students are prominently featured with additional information located in a small colorful rectangle on each double-sided page spread. A labeled diagram of an adult animal explains the function of specific physical characteristics, and a world map shows where those animals live. A final page includes a glossary, bibliography of books and Web sites, and an index. Illustrations use warm, rich colors of a savannah, wetland, or forest to show landforms in that region. Images are detailed to portray physical attributes (size comparison, skin texture, etc.) from different angles and to depict behaviors of adult animals and their offspring. Age appropriate factual content and informative illustrations make these books a worthwhile purchase to complement a unit on wild animals. Recommended." - Library Media Connection
