"The pictures are large close-ups of the animals in different situations; brightly-colored pages will attract the reader’s attention." - School Library Connection

NSTA Recommends - Cindi Smith-Walters, biology professor

"Each book is 32 pages long and targets the PreK–2 age group with engaging full–color photographs and easy to read text. All have the typical book features like a table of contents and a glossary with pronunciation guide, but within the text you’ll find the incorporation of maps (a nice addition and a good link to social studies and geography). . . .A nice addition is the list of questions to promote critical thinking using the Common Core. Several ways classroom teachers can use the books include the time tested and tried read–aloud, showing pictures and talking or discussing each. Using the book as the basis of a word wall is another method to incorporate science vocabulary. Adding key vocabulary to the word wall as it is revealed in the text is important. Another way to use the Awesome African Animal series is to find ecological equivalents; animals with the same ecological role or ‘job’ in different parts of the world. . . .These are only a few ways this series can be used with students. Get to know these Awesome African Animals and use them in your classroom!" - NSTA Recommends
