"Matt Maticus, a giraffe, has young readers join him on a farm to explore probability. Presented in short reading passages with accompanying visual aids, the book is divided into sections; teachers have the option to use the entire book at once or use the appropriate section for a lesson. Appealing, informative, interesting pictures and drawings demonstrate the mathematical skills being taught to students. The book also features many vocabulary words presented in context with a definition at the bottom of the page where the word appears. A glossary and index are included, as well as a listing of books for students to read more about probability and an Internet site related to information found in the book. My third graders enjoyed this book. Most of them had prior knowledge of probability, but this book offered more information. After reading the book, students were able to consider some areas of probability that they may not have considered before. I recommend this book for students in grades 1-3 as a good introduction to probability." - Teaching Children Mathematics, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics
