School Library Journal, "A Reluctant reader’s best friend: Check out some of my - Michael Sullivan

"Kids who struggle with reading are at a disadvantage across the entire curriculum, and they often miss out on horizon-broadening texts that more proficient readers take for granted. This great new nonfiction series levels the playing field." - School Library Journal, "A Reluctant reader’s best friend: Check out some of my

Library Media Connection - Janet Luch, Educational Reviewer & Adjunct Instructor SUNY New Paltz, Touro Coll

"Each of these descriptive and exciting guides to ancient warriors tells the way that they fought, the weapons they used, and how we think of them today. Unfamiliar words are bolded within the text with the meaning given in context. In addition, there are many labeled diagrams to help the reader visualize descriptions. The books describe the beginnings of the warrior class discussed, changes over time, and interesting information about their lives. Key figures and battles are discussed, along with stories surrounding them and why they were important. The last chapter looks at how the warriors are represented today in movies, books, and other popular culture. Recommended." - Library Media Connection

Tri State Young Adult Review Committee - Lynn Fisher

"This is a factoid book about the Samurai, the warriors who served the ruling Shoguns of Japan during their feudal era. This title is a very colorful guide to the history, daily life and customs of the Samurai warriors of Japan. The web-like/flow chart-like structure of each double-page spread will easily capture readers interested in the subject. Each section is full of information offered in a rapid-fire manner. Specific facts are highlighted throughout the book, such as information on the Samurai of the Edo period, and the Tomoe Gozen. Some sections have more narrative, and this helps to flesh out the rest of the information in the book. This series, History’s Greatest Warriors, is complete in four volumes. If all are as interesting, informational and colorful as this one, then they are a must-have for any elementary-school, middle-school, or public-library collection." - Tri State Young Adult Review Committee
