Library Media Connection - Marion Mueller, Library Media Consultant, Rawhide Starr Academy, New London, Wis

"Girls will say, “Eww, yuck!” and walk away. Boys will say, “Gross!” and read the series. From the enlarged microphotographs on the covers, the reader’s eye is drawn to the topics. Helpful study tools include bolded words defined in a word box, and labeled microphotographs. All books discuss the harmfulness of uncontrolled microorganisms, but also tell about the useful role of the critters. Food Intruders adds historical information about Salem witchcraft and bad bread, the potato famine in Ireland, salmonella contamination, etc. Though most suited for upper elementary, the books would be valuable in middle school for struggling readers. Recommended." - Library Media Connection

Karen M. Leet

Karen M. Leet loves to write--she knew by the time she turned 10 that she would be a writer! She has sold more than 600 stories and articles. When she's not writing, she loves to read, especially mysteries and adventure stories. Karen lives in the Bluegrass region of Kentucky where there are horses, horses and more horses. She loves animals, even slimy and scaly ones, and has owned plenty of pets. Karen enjoys writing about disasters, terrible weather, and animals nobody likes. If it's gross and disgusting, she's fascinated by it!
